Product Description The perfect way to plan your grocery shopping excursions, this state-of-the-art gadget uses innovative voice recognition software to compile lists of items and errands. The information is then stored into memory on an easy-to-read LCD and printed like a receipt to refer to as you shop. One-year warranty. Model SS101.
Amazon.com Review This nifty organizer from SmartShopper eliminates the need to dig up a pad of paper and a pencil and try to remember what you need when you want to make a shopping list. Keep this handy device stuck to your fridge magnetically, or mount it on the kitchen wall with the included kit, and you're set to go. At breakfast when the milk runs out, simply push the Record button and say "milk." At lunch when you realize you're out of bread, push and speak again. Kids will love helping out. You can also add errands, such as going to the bank or post office. Entries are automatically alphabetized. When you push the Print button, the list is printed with errands at the top and food items by category, to make your shopping expeditions more efficient. Easy and intuitive to use, the SmartShopper is already loaded with state-of-the-art voice recognition software, a thermal printer that doesn't require ink, and 2,500 item names, for everything from brand-name cereals to antacids to paper towels. Three rolls of thermal paper are included as well. All you need to add are four AA batteries. Arrow buttons allow you to scroll through your list, delete an item if you wish, or add a customized item to the pre-loaded list. With its brushed metal exterior, large LCD window, and front-loading door for paper, the SmartShopper makes a great gift, especially for those who may have trouble writing due to arthritis and other health conditions. --Ann Bieri

Decent, for the first few months June 28, 2010 Waymon Cox (Murfreesboro, AR) I bought this item in February and really enjoyed it at first. It helped me keep my lists in order and very concise, so that little time and money was wasted on shopping trips. The voice recognition took a little getting used to, and the buttons were tedious to press. I was left frustrated sometimes with items I pronounced slowly and clearly, but the computer still wouldn't recognize. In those cases I would manually add the item, same as if I had a pen and paper.
After a few months of decent list-making and dealing with the occasional bugs in this device (it would randomly switching between items or lists without me pressing any buttons), one morning I went to add an item and it chimed, saying "List Full." Thinking maybe I had filled the memory with manually-added items in the library, I deleted a bunch of stuff I either never bought or didn't recognize. I went back and tried to add to my list again and received the same message. I popped the batteries out for a few minutes, then tried again; same response.
In the end, I can say this is a cool idea, but very expensive for the very poor quality of materials and the shoddy computer. If they ever make a "new & improved" version, they should also make it more punch-resistant....
Don't waste your money June 24, 2010 obtech Whatever you do, don't waste your money. If you have money you don't need, send it to me. I'd be happy to take it off your hands. The warranty is horribly short, and when it breaks (not if), all they will do is offer to sell you a new one at a very slight discount. Until they have a decent warranty, don't waste your money. You've been warned.
SmartShopper June 9, 2010 Robert Though, the Smartshopper may be more of a novelty item due to the price, the product works. I would not recommend it to anyone with a strong accent.
Great Concept / Inferior Product June 6, 2010 C. Burnett (NC) I loved the concept behind the Smart Shopper Grocery List Organizer; however, the product does not work at all. The voice recognition worked about 2% of the time. I had everyone in my family try repeatedly, and the product could not pull up a single word correctly. I believe that you can customize every single word into your own voice recognition, but who has that kind of time? And then it does not recognize anyone else's words. At that rate, it's just easier to grab a pen and pencil and write down your grocery list.
The product would be a fun one, if they could improve on the accuracy of the voice recognition.
The BEST May 29, 2010 Michelle E. Richardson (Texas) I got this for Mothers Day(I really wanted one). I LOVE IT!!! It's very easy to use - even my kids - and husband- use it!! No more forgetting what I need at the store. I LOVE how it organizes the list as well. I highly recommend it.
