Preset to 65mbps July 24, 2010 Daryl Easy to setup and connect but the factory settings limit the reciever to 66mbps!! No amount of settings wrangling could get the receiver to hit the advertised 150. Returned the it and then noticed that the installed software included a PROGRAM to set it to 150. Goofy in mind. We buy N products to get faster results and then this one is preset for a slower speed with no instructions to reach desired speeds.
Not for 5GHZ Band July 8, 2010 Carlos Gonzalez 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
BUYERS BEWARE!
This Wireless adaptor WON'T WORK on the 5GHZ Band!
As today, You can find several Wireless routers featuring radios on the 5GHZ band, mostly are dual band (2.4 and 5GHZ) like Cisco-Linksys E3000 High-Performance Wireless-N Router, and the reason is that you can use the better 5 to 5.8 GHZ band to get improved transmission, especially on 802.11n.
A lot of people, including me, bought this adapter to use it with Media Players like this one Western Digital WD TV Live Network-ready HD Media Player WDBAAN0000NBK-NESN, with the simple idea to set up an exclusive SSID on the 5GHZ band to connect all wireless Media-related devices, to correctly stream HD content over several rooms.
Well, that's simple until you realize that, without any indication in the product description, some adapters WON'T WORK OVER 5GHZ bands, like the Buffalo Nfiniti.
I mean, I consider myself a tech-savvy guy, and I researched several adapters, and I had on the back of my head a little voice telling me to be cautious about the band capabilities of the adapters, but heck, after reading the description and missing terms like "band", "dual band", "2.4 GHZ", "5 GHZ", and reading things like "Wi-Fi CERTIFIED(tm) to ensure compatibility with other certified devices", I bitted the bullet and bought two of this adapters.
I would like to recommend Amazon, the manufacturers, and sellers, to realize that the 5GHZ band is here, over several products, and to PROPERLY REDACT the description of the products to avoid confusions.
Plug and play on Windows 7 64, Ubuntu? July 7, 2010 D. Friedman (Phoenix, AZ) I bought this adapter in January, but have honestly only tried using this a few times as it didn't solve the issue I was having that made me buy this to begin with. I have a Compaq Win 7 64 bit laptop with built in "N" wireless card connected to a Linksys wrt-160n. My connection was showing as excellent and 150mbps (not dual band) but my connection was actually like dial up! Speed test was showing 1.5mbps! I thought it was a driver issue w/ the laptops wifi adapter so when I wasn't able to resolve the issue, I decided to give this adapter a try. I was pleased that it seemed to work well and was plug and play with Windows 7 64 bit. I did not install any software from the CD. It just worked. Problem was, it was the same as the laptops internal card! Still showing 150mbps but actually connected at 1.5-2mbps. This laptop is the only thing connected to my password protected network so there shouldn't be any other "B" or "G" devices slowing this down. I decided to mess with the router settings and sure enough once I set it to "G Only" Speed test instantly showed 20mbps and its been fast ever since. But this is connected as "G", not "N"! Mixed mode and "N" only gave 1.5mbps. This might be an issue with the router. Either way, Im pissed that I "upgraded" to "N" but I'm still only able to use "G". I might have to get a new router. Any advice would be appreciated. On a side note, this might work on Linux with a little work. I plugged it into my 32bit Ubuntu 10.4 desktop and it showed the networks but I couldn't connect. Might work w/ a driver that I didn't look for. I just plugged it in and did a quick check to see if it worked. I will investigate more and update this if any success. On a side note, this isnt the smallest adapter out there, but its WAY smaller than most others. Also, watch for the price as I bought this in Jan 2010 for under twenty dollars (half what it is listed for now) but it was selling for 3x that between the time I ordered mine and received it (just a few days).
Great little thing July 3, 2010 J. Del Bono Lonardi I just bought this to use is with the WDTV Live, and works great.
I also tested in my laptop and with a few click I had wifi..
about speed I am not sure since I have a G router, but I trasnfered Gb of data with no interruption and veru fast!!
Doesn't Work June 30, 2010 L8blumr (Austin, TX) 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
I purchased this because I was having issues with our wireless and was told this would help. The installation seemed easy enough. I could not get this to work! So I called Buffalo's 24/7 Customer Service - and sat on hold for over 45 minutes - TWICE - before giving up! Not only would I NOT RECOMMEND this product, I would not recommend ANY Buffalo product (good luck getting it to work, or getting Customer Service on the line).
