3 out of 5 stars expected little more than this   August 11, 2010
Tim (Chicago,IL,USA)
I gave up after several hours on it. It's not fast or reliable, in AP mode or AP client mode (no faster than 72mbps within 6 feet, no obstacle). Instead I spent about 30 minutes drilling few holes in the closet and now I have a reliable real 100mbps Ethernet connection between pcs in basement and upstair rooms. It seems that wireless still need some time to become a real solution for networking more than web browsing. It's not too bad if you don't have any wireless network yet. For upgrading, you need some luck.

5 out of 5 stars Great Wireless N Access Point   July 26, 2010
P. Kreth
This access point is capable of wireless N network speeds of up to 300 Mbps, as advertised (I verified the speeds). In order to get these speeds, however, you must have the appropriate optimal settings for both your gateway and this access point. A quick google search will show the appropriate settings for things like the HT Physical Mode, MCS, etc.

2 out of 5 stars If you are a rocket scientist, give it a go......   June 12, 2010
D. Morris (Houston, TX)
First off, I'm not a technology wizard, nor am I an amatuer; having said that, this thing is nearly impossible to set up! I'm talking hours of tinkering with it! Even after getting it working, it loses connection about every other day and needs to be power-cycled. Definitely not a great product...

4 out of 5 stars Nice unit   May 20, 2010
J. Schatz (Los Angeles, USA)
The unit works well for my use, but since I don't have another unit to compare against, I can't say that it is better or worse than its competitors. It does have dual antennas which presumably improves its signal strength.

I am using this unit in bridge mode. The hardest part of the setup was finding the instructions. The general setup instructions assume that one is going to use it as an access point, presumably to add wireless access to a non-wireless router or to add N capability to an A, B, or G router. My only other complaint is that the unit has only a single ethernet port. To connect more than one piece of equipment, one has to use a switch, so the only advantage I see over a gaming adapter is the dual antennas.

5 out of 5 stars Works Great   April 7, 2010
Joe's review (USA)
TRENDnet 300Mbps Wireless N Access Point TEW-638APB (Black)

I have a small business and I had to move the printer to a common place linked to all computers running Windows 7, Vista, Vista 64 and XP. I used Trendnet TEW-638APB H/W:V2 in bridge mode along with printer server (Dlink- DP-301U). Configuration of TEW took 10 minutes. It has been working great without any problems for the past month.
