| | | The NETGEAR WG102 ProSafe 802.11g Wireless Access Point provides a secure and reliable wireless network with enterprise-level functionality at a mid-market price.
The access point provides enterprise-level security with 802.11i, WPA2-Enterprise. View larger. | Fast and Secure Fully compatible with the 802.11g wireless standard at 54 Mbps, with an optional turbo mode for a speedy 108 Mbps when used with supported NETGEAR adapters, the WG102 offers a network connection that is fast and widely compatible. As 802.11g is backwards compatible with 802.11b, you needn't worry about your computers with older network cards not working. Your data is secure, as the WG102 complies with industry security standards for user authorization and wireless data encryption; 802.11i, WPA2-Enterprise technology will keep your wireless network secure and interoperable. Also supported is MAC address authentication with a 256-user Access Control List and VPN pass-through. Bridge and Repeater Mode In addition to functioning as an access point, the access point can also be used as a bridge and as a repeater. Used as a bridge, the device allows you to connect two LANs wirelessly; as a repeater, your wireless signal's range is extended so even the remote corners of your home or office can be covered. Smart Design and Easy Setup Thanks to support for the IEEE 802.3af-based Power over Ethernet (PoE) standard, the need for extra cables are eliminated and the access point doesn't have to be put near a power outlet. The Simple Network Management Protocol is supported, allowing you to use any SNMP-based network management software. NETGEAR's Smart Wizard browser-based interface makes setup a snap. The access point comes with one detachable antenna. The NETGEAR WG102 ProSafe 802.11g Wireless Access Point is backed by a lifetime warranty (power supply is backed by a 3-year warranty). What's in the Box WG102 Wireless Access Point, one 5 dBi detachable antenna, resource CD, power adapter, Ethernet cable, installation guide, and warranty/support information card.

Pretty easy to use, range could be better August 9, 2010 James Ryley (Maryland) This was a snap to set up due to excellent instructions. I must caution however that you must follow the instructions. The default subnet is strange (comes configured for 192.168.0.229 -- wouldn't 192.168.1.xxx be more likely what someone is already using?). Once you switch the default IP to your subnet, it's really easy. Could be a little more powerful or come with a directional antenna. Signal strength drops of noticably after 40 feet when going through a couple regular house walls (still very usable, just not at the fastest speeds). However, if you can centrally locate it (I ended up moving mine since the most convenient location was at one end of my house), it will cover an entire house with excellent signal strength.
Netgear Prosafe WG102 Wireless Access Point January 26, 2009 James R. Bryson (Guntown, MS) This is a great wireless router for the network I'm supporting. I have several in service already and they give reliable wide area coverage at minimal cost.
Works well and does much more than many WAP's I have seen. January 11, 2009 Church of PAC Audio-Video (Millburn, NJ, USA) I decided to try this model because I was disgusted with other brands of access points, mostly because they either seemed to have trouble supporting simultaneous multiple wireless connections, or would stop assigning new IP addresses (via DHCP) to wireless units requesting access until I reset or restarted the access point. At last, this Netgear WG102 WAP works well and never fails to connect any Wi-Fi unit requesting access. Furthermore, I never realized that any WAP could support multiple SSID's with different encryption modes all at once. But this one does! So, for the first time, I have no complaints about a wireless access point! This one doesn't screw up, & it has more features than I ever thought could be packed into one unit for a decent price (I had ordered it using wishful "blind-faith" not realizing all its capabilities until I received it). Not a smart thing to do, but I was rewarded nonetheless. _Church
Works great - once it's configured right November 23, 2008 Thule1 This unit works great but it took me 3 days to figure out how to configure it. Netgear support was no help, although they did respond to my e-mail - which just didn't read correctly, so their answer was of no help. The problem turned out that the laptop needed the address of the Verizon DNS server. The Netgear instructions don't get you a clue about that; just how to configure the unit with it's address. I recommend the unit for experienced techies. I've only been working with computers and networks for 40 years - what do I know?
WG102 October 20, 2008 James E. McArdle (Carmichael, CA) The Netgear WG102 is easy to set up and just about guarantees a connection on the first attempt. I liked it so much, I bought four more and am looking for more. Great product!
